Mexico City, February 18, 2025.— The School of Communication at the Universidad Panamericana successfully Universidad Panamericana the sixth edition of the Journalism Award, an event that brought together students, professors, and prominent journalists in the auditorium of the Mexico City campus, Mixcoac location.
This award has established itself as a benchmark in the training of future information professionals committed to ethics, innovation, and social impact.

When Dr. José Luis López Aguirre, coordinator of the Awards Committee, commented: “We are very pleased to celebrate this sixth edition, highlighting the work and collective effort of a dozen professors and fellow journalists from national media outlets; their participation has lent greater credibility and significance to this award, and we are gathered here specifically to honor journalistic work”.

Journalism in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
During the ceremony, the director of the School of Communication, Dr. Mariano Navarro, reminded the students of the responsibility of journalism and its impact on society. For his part, Dr. López Aguirre spoke about the role of artificial intelligence in this profession and reflected on its benefits and challenges.

Dr. López Aguirre also added: “We have gathered here today to reevaluate the work of journalism and highlight the skills we acquire through the knowledge and practice of reporting, which are so necessary in these turbulent times, marked by immediacy, an excess of data and messages, and the phenomenon of disinformation, which fuel polarization, inhibit dialogue, and promote hatred, doubt, and confusion”.
During the presentation of the participating categories by professors from the School of Communication, Carla Cisneros, a digital radio instructor, reminded those present “Something I always tell my students in class is that artificial intelligence isn’t going to take their jobs away; they can be taken away by people who know how to use it”.

Likewise, Gabriela Sofía Núñez Rea, winner of the previous edition, also had the opportunity to share her perspective on the journalism profession: “A good story has the power to enlighten, inspire, and transform.”
Winners of the sixth edition
The presidium of the sixth edition of the Journalism Award was composed of Dr. Navarro and Dr. López Aguirre; as well as Ana Teresa López, professor at the School of Communication; and Javier Rodríguez Labastida, general director of Desde la Fe; and Gabriela Sofía Núñez Rea.
The winners in the various categories were:
- Profile Interview: Anna Paola Téllez, with No matter how hard it is, everything passes. It’s always possible to leave your abuser behind and find peace: Verónica Fernández.
- Report: Nicole Hernández Rodríguez, with Between Lights and Lost Glances.
- Multimedia report: Gabriela Sofía Núñez Rea and Josué Escobar Vázquez, with Tianguis: Secondhand, First Choice.
- News report or television news program: Andrés Dávila Monroy, Ángel Patricio Hernández Derflingher, Luis Antonio Hernández Verdejo, and Karen Marely Rodríguez on “Contaminated Water in Benito Juárez.”
- News podcast: Guiedaani Biniza Santiago Cacho, Fernanda Ximena Conde López, and Andrés Dávila Monroy, with Billy's Journey.

More than just an awards ceremony, a reflection on the future of journalism
The sixth edition of the UP Journalism Award not only recognized the students' talent but also encouraged discussion of the new challenges facing journalism and communication in the digital age.
