Zapopan, Jalisco; October 27, 2025.– The School of Communication at the Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara Universidad Panamericana , which is about to celebrate its 25th anniversary, is embarking on a new phase focused on continuous improvement and academic strengthening.
Dr. Gabriel Domínguez, dean of the School, emphasized that this process aims to enhance the institution’s visibility, strengthen the university community, and optimize internal and external communication processes.

Academic Progress: On the Path to College
One of the main goals of this new phase is for the School of Communication to evolve into a college through the integration of the Doctorate in Communication Research, a program that will provide a deeper understanding of the discipline and greater clarity in the students’ professional training. The new doctorate includes five lines of research:
- Video game research in collaboration with the School of Engineering and the video game development studio Halberd Studios
- The Perception of Violence Through the Media
- The portrayal of the family in social media
- Media Management: How Media Companies Work
- Crisis Communication and Reputation
Learning Without Borders
As part of its growth process, the School of Communication is promoting the internationalization of its students through academic trips, study abroad programs, and partnerships with international universities; this initiative is already taking shape, as the Master’s program in Public Communication will be organizing an academic visit to Washington, while the Strategic Communication program will be offering a study abroad program in Colombia.
In addition, work is underway on a dual-degree program with Texas Tech University, and an international scholarship is about to be launched to help students apply to international academic programs.
Constant change and evolution
New technologies have transformed communication, but Dr. Dominguez emphasized that its essence remains the same, adapting to emerging media. For this reason, the School teaches the solid foundations of strategic communication to enable students to adapt to new developments.
“Communicators have mastered something fundamental that we do every day: the art of communicating and of touching people’s hearts, changing attitudes, and shifting ways of thinking,” he explained.
For this reason, the school maintains a focus on strategic communication, training professionals who can adapt to new media without losing sight of the conceptual and human depth of their work.
A dedicated, multidisciplinary academic team
The success of the School of Communication also lies in its faculty, which is made up of professors from different generations and fields of expertise.

Notable among them are Alina García Barba, M.A., recipient of the “José Ruiz Medrano” Catholic Award for Communication presented by the Archdiocese of Guadalajara, and Dr. María Elena Gutiérrez Rentería, current president of the World Media Economics and Management Conference (WMEMC), who will lead the 2027 International Congress to be held at the Universidad Panamericana.

“We are a multidisciplinary and multigenerational team. We have faculty members with extensive experience and young professionals who bring innovation to the table. That combination enriches us and keeps us at the forefront,” said Dr. Domínguez.
WMEMC 2027, which will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the School of Communication, will be an event of international significance that will solidify its position as a leading academic institution in the fields of communication studies and media management.

Through strategic planning, the Universidad Panamericana to grow, implementing new approaches to educate its students while strengthening and empowering its community.
Dr. Gabriel Domínguez shared that this process of influencing others and encouraging them to achieve their goals is what defines his calling: “The best way to live out a spirit of service is to be a bridge.
