UP impulsa nueva política editorial para fortalecer su sello institucional

Zapopan, Jalisco, August 22, 2025.—The Universidad Panamericana  has launched a new publishing policy with the aim of strengthening its institutional brand, improving the quality of its publications, and attracting prestigious authors. This strategy seeks to establish our university as a leader in the national and international academic publishing sphere.

Dr. Manuel Bernal, the university’s director of publications, explained that previously each college, school, or department published independently, which led to inconsistencies in the quality and distribution of books and journals. This new policy establishes a unified model for academic publishing.

Preserving the UP publishing brand

One of the key priorities is regulating the use of the UP logo and emblem in all publications, ensuring their proper application and maintaining their prestige. Editorial Universidad Panamericana, registered with INDAUTOR, will allow for the creation of sub-imprints by subject area, preserving the institutional identity while providing flexibility in the design of collections and the presentation of each collection.

For scientific journals, a more rigorous editorial process has been established, with editors-in-chief ensuring the quality of the articles. “The difference lies in quality—in rejecting what does not meet the standards or the scope of each publication,”, notes Dr. Bernal. This model will also be replicated in book publishing.

Open to distinguished external authors

The new policy sets a maximum quota of 20% for in-house authors—that is, authors affiliated with the university. This measure aims to prevent self-publishing and thereby attract renowned external authors. “The message we want to convey is that these editorial rules, which apply to the journal sector, also apply to the book industry, explained Dr. Manuel Bernal.

The goal is for the Universidad Panamericana publishing imprint Universidad Panamericana recognized for its quality and not just for the authors’ affiliations. The UP imprint must be recognized for its contributions, its quality, its consistency, or its specialization in certain topics,”, he says.

Each college, school, or department will have an editorial committee composed of faculty members, researchers, and authors, who will be responsible for selecting works and defining collections. In addition, an editorial style guide will be developed to align the institution’s image with market trends.

The strategy also includes a combination of commercial and open-access models. In the case of handbooks and textbooks, open access publication will be prioritized to increase the dissemination of knowledge and academic reach.

International Screening at the FIL Guadalajara

By 2025, the Universidad Panamericana present its editorial policy to the management committees of its campuses and establish editorial committees. An editorial style guide will be developed, aligning the institutional branding guidelines with trends in the publishing market.

In addition, preparations will be made for the publisher’s participation in the 2025 Guadalajara International Book Fair, which will take place from November 29 to December 7, featuring a catalog that will include publications from the past five years and collaborations with other publishers.

A strategic shift toward editorial excellence

Universidad Panamericana new publishing policy marks a decisive step toward academic excellence, internationalization, and the dissemination of scientific knowledge. Its success will depend on the collaboration of the editorial boards and the ability to attract prestigious external authors who will enhance the reputation of Universidad Panamericana publishing imprint.
