Aguascalientes, Ags. January 10, 2023.- Nine students from Panamericana were chosen to be part of the national flag football team 's preliminary selection for the 2023 World Cup. The tryouts were held last November during the National Championship, which took place in Mexico City.

Both the men's and women's teams participated. After this process, the good news was announced that nine students from our institution had been chosen to be part of the preliminary selection, with the hope that, in the next phase, all these highly competitive students with the heart of top-level athletes will be able to make the final list and officially represent our country in the World Cup.
Sports at UP
Sports have grown significantly and continuously on our campus. They have been promoted to the point where all teams compete in the most important tournaments in their respective disciplines. Flag football players are no exception to this peak.
"This sport has developed considerably at the national level," says Luis Enrique Rejas, Lucho, as he is known, Sports Coordinator at the Aguascalientes campus. "This growth has been particularly noticeable in the women's division. They recently won the gold medal at the World Games in Birmingham, USA. And the men's team made it to the podium in the same tournament."
For his part, Fernando Peña, the team's starting quarterback, comments: "I feel very comfortable with my teammates. We have managed to form a very good, united group. When we heard the news that we had made the shortlist, we were very happy. It was a very big tournament, with around 300 teams, and being nominated makes me and the whole team very proud. It motivates me to keep giving my all and to improve as an athlete so that I can perform even better.

"We had never had this happen before. The number of students who were preselected is truly inspiring because, from the state of Aguascalientes, practically all of them have been UP students. This motivates us to further promote this sport, which has only been on campus for a few years and is already yielding very good results," concludes Lucho.
