UP strengthens its international offering with a dual degree program in partnership with CityU

Mexico City, December 5, 2025.–In an increasingly globalized and competitive job market, having strong, internationally recognized academic credentials has become a key differentiator. 

Recognizing this need, the Universidad Panamericana, through its International Affairs, has established an innovative partnership with the City University of Seattle (CityU) to offer an International Dual Degree program, designed to enhance the professional profile of its graduates and open the doors to the world’s most important job market.

Marco Pliego, the program’s coordinator and lead, explained that this initiative addresses the current demands of the global economy, where the integration of supply chains and competition for positions at leading companies ortop schoolsfor master’s programs require exceptional preparation.

 “The option of earning a degree in Mexico and another in the United States makes our graduates a better choice and allows them to access opportunities in both countries,”, he notes.

An innovative and accessible academic program

The program stands out for its academic and technological viability. Students at the Universidad Panamericana their regular curriculum while simultaneously taking specific courses offered by CityU.

Thanks to a course transfer process for core courses, students need to take 11 additional courses at CityU to fulfill the required credits and earn their U.S. degree, thereby optimizing their time and resources.

A partnership with a proven track record

The choice of City University of Seattle as an academic partner was no accident. “CityU is a pioneer in international dual-degree programs and has more than 20 years of experience working in Mexico,”, says Pliego. 

Its asynchronous educational model, combined with the support of a large community of alumni in leadership positions, ensures the strength and prestige of this partnership.

Candidate Profile and Competitive Advantages

The program is designed for students majoring in Business, Industrial Engineering, Data-Driven Innovation, and Data Intelligence and Cybersecurity Engineering. Key requirements include maintaining a minimum GPA of 8.0 at Panamericana and scoring at least 550 on the TOEFL or its equivalent.

Upon completion, graduates will, in most cases, earn aBachelor of Science in Business and Data Analyticsfrom CityU, in addition to their Mexican degree. However, students in Data Intelligence and Cybersecurity Engineering may pursue a Bachelor of Science in Data Science or a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity; and students in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering may opt for a Bachelor of Arts in Management.

“This makes students more competitive and enables them to work professionally in both Mexico and the United States,”, the coordinator emphasizes.

Multicultural experience and global perspective

The quality of the U.S. degree is guaranteed, as CityU is accredited by theNorthwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the body that oversees regional accreditations on behalf of theCouncil for Higher Education Accreditationin Washington, D.C.

Beyond the value of the two diplomas, the program enriches the student’s international experience. “The experience of taking classes with professors and classmates from other countries broadens our horizons,”, says Pliego. 

Students engage in discussions that bring together diverse perspectives, fostering more nuanced critical thinking, with the added option of attending in-person summer sessions at locations such as Seattle, Prague, or Cologne.
