UP registers innovative AI-powered software developments with INDAUTOR

Mexico City, October 29, 2025.—The Universidad Panamericana its leadership in the national innovation ecosystem with its registration with the National Copyright Institute (INDAUTOR) of two software programs developed using Artificial Intelligence: Heuristic Packing and the Mossbauer Deconvolver, projects by Dr. Félix Orlando Martínez Ríos and Dr. Yovani Marrero Ponce, researchers at our university.

These projects, now legally protected, represent a significant step forward in the application of bio-inspired algorithms to solve complex problems in industry and scientific research.

Smart solutions for real-world challenges

Heuristic Packing addresses the classic and crucial logistics problem known as the “Packing Problem, which involves efficiently packing objects into a container.

Inspired by the natural phenomenon of how atoms arrange themselves in a crystalline structure, the algorithm simulates electromagnetic fields to identify the optimal spaces for placing objects, achieving nearly 95% space utilization in remarkably short amounts of time.

“This development is of great importance to logistics and transportation companies, such as DHL, Amazon, and FedEx, as well as to any industry that needs to optimize space when shipping its products,”, explains Dr. Martínez Ríos.

Unlike traditional solutions, this software is flexible, allowing you to package items of different sizes and shapes, and even supports telescopic packaging (such as nesting tubes of different diameters inside one another).

For its part, the Mössbauer Deconvolver is a specialized tool for analyzing spectra in Mössbauer spectroscopy, a fundamental technique for characterizing materials that contain iron or other atoms with resonant absorption properties.

This software uses a particle swarm optimization algorithm, inspired by the collective behavior of flocks of birds or schools of fish, to optimize and streamline the analysis of complex data.

“This technique is widely used in geology, biochemistry, and materials science; it has even played a key role in space missions to Mars for analyzing the composition of rocks and soil,”, noted Dr. Marrero Ponce.

Strategic Impact and Institutional Outreach

For the Universidad Panamericana, registering these developments with INDAUTOR represents a strategic step in its commitment to applied research and knowledge transfer.

Dr. Juan Alberto Gonzales Piñón, Corporate Director of Innovation and Technology Transfer at Panamericana, emphasized that “this software demonstrates the relevance and applicability of the scientific research we conduct, which is geared toward addressing the real challenges facing the industry. Both contribute significant strategic value to Industry 4.0”.

Regarding the university’s standing, the Corporate Director of Innovation and Technology Transfer stated that these achievements “represent a new generation of smart solutions that integrate artificial intelligence and sustainability, driving efficiency, innovation, and industrial competitiveness on a global scale”.

Legal protection under INDAUTOR not only recognizes the authorship of the researchers and the ownership rights of the Universidad Panamericana, but also provides legal certainty, credibility with investors, and opens the door to the commercialization and licensing of technology.

“Registration increases their commercial value and allows for the design of flexible monetization models, turning them into a scalable and profitable asset,”, added Juan Alberto.

Transfer to the industrial sector

Panamericana has already begun discussions with various industry players to bring these prototypes to market. The planned approaches include licensing agreements for the use of intellectual property, SaaS (Software as a Service) models, and joint R&D projects.

“These strategies are designed to transform academic knowledge into tangible economic and social value, said Gonzales Piñón.

With the registration of the Heuristic Packing and the Mossbauer Deconvolver, the Universidad Panamericana its commitment to research excellence, the protection of intellectual property, and the country’s technological advancement, positioning its researchers and developments at the forefront of artificial intelligence applied to science and industry.
