Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, June 3, 2025.— Accounting students at the Universidad Panamericana Aguascalientes campus won gold and silver medals at the 2025 Local Ethics Marathon organized by the Aguascalientes Association of Certified Public Accountants.
The main purpose of the Local Ethics Marathon is to encourage and promote among college students the study, analysis, and practical application of current regulations regarding the Code of Ethics, thereby strengthening their academic and professional preparation.
An opportunity to put professional skills into practice
According to the Mireya Alba Gallegos, M.A., director of the bachelor’s degree program in Accounting, the importance of these types of activities lies in the need to foster, among the community of future certified public accountants and accounting professionals, a foundation in ethics and its practical application through compliance with applicable standards, as set forth in the 2024 version of the Code of Ethics, promulgated by the Mexican Institute of Public Accountants.
The marathon was divided into two stages: the first consisted of a 40-question multiple-choice quiz; the second involved solving a case study based on real-life ethical dilemmas. Both stages were evaluated by a panel of six judges who are experts in professional ethics.
Through this process and with the participation of six judges—individuals with proven track records and extensive knowledge of the Code of Professional Ethics—the two participating teams from the Universidad Panamericana stood out throughout the competition.
To uphold the name of the Universidad Panamericana
In this edition, the Aguascalientes campus of the Universidad Panamericana tand out with two award-winning teams:
- First place: Emiliano Flores Medina, Cynthia Arias Sánchez, Eduardo Alberto Valdés López, and Daniel Reynoso Aranda.
- Second place: José Alonso López Alonso, Eduardo Comté López, Paulina Verdín Zermeño, and Alejandro Ponce de León Penna.
It is worth noting that both teams received guidance and training from Professor Fermín de Jesús Reyes Martínez.
Alba Gallegos, M.A., noted that, thanks to this outstanding performance, the students who won first and second place will represent the Aguascalientes Association of Certified Public Accountants at the upcoming Regional Ethics Marathon, to be held in September at the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes.
With these achievements, the Universidad Panamericana has established itself as a leader in training young professionals in the fields of economics and business in the central region, confirming the institution’s extensive experience as a leader in business higher education in Mexico and preparing students with the highest potential and leadership responsibility.
