Mexico City, November 7, 2024. The University of Notre Dameone of the most renowned private, Catholic and research institutions in the United States, strengthened its ties with the United States, following a visit by a high-profile delegation led by the President of the University of Notre Dame. Universidad Panamericana following the visit of a high-profile delegation headed by John McGreevy, President of the John McGreevyProvost of Notre Dame.
The delegation also included Maria Di PasqualeChief of Staff; Arnie PhiferDirector of the Bioengineering and Life Sciences Initiative; Jean McManuslibrarian at Hesburgh Libraries; and María Mercedes Salmóndirector of Notre Dame in Mexico.
The visit, which took place on October 22, included a working breakfast with academics from the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (IHIS). Institute of Humanities y the School of Philosophy of Panamericana, where joint projects under development since 2018 were reviewed.
The Notre Dame delegation was welcomed by Alberto Rossdirector of the Institute of Humanities; Leonardo Ruizdean of Philosophy; and Luis Xavier López-Farjeat, researcher in Philosophy. Also present were Gabriela Valdiviesocorporate director of International Affairs, y Liza Monroy director of International Affairs of the Mexico City campus.
Strengthening academic collaborations
In the area of Humanities and Philosophy, collaborations between the two universities include workshops workshops, research, and academic visits.. Of particular note is the collaboration between Dr. Luis Xavier Lopez-Farjeat and Notre Dame professor Therese Coryas well as the participation of academics in the Nicola Center for Ethics and Culture.
In 2021, Dr. Alberto Ross Dr. Alberto Ross conducted a research stay at Notre Dame, and in 2023, Professor Sean Kelsey was a guest lecturer at Panamericana's Humanities Institute. In Law, mention was made of the stay of Dr. Jaime Olaiz at Panamericana's Humanities Institute. Dr. Jaime Olaiz at the Kellogg Institute for International Studies as a Visiting Fellow, and the contributions of Notre Dame professors and the contributions of Notre Dame professors to the International Law Summers in 2021 and 2023.
These academic collaborations reflect the commitment commitment of both institutions to interdisciplinary training and the creation of spaces for academic and cultural dialogue.
Student exchange and international mobility
The relationship between the two institutions includes some studenttudent mobility activities. From 2022, students from Business Notre Dame have participated in a campus Guadalajara program since 2022.
In 2024, Gastronomy students from Notre Dame visited the Mexico City campus to broaden their practical experience in a different cultural context. Likewise, students from different careers carried out internships in Mexico City and participated in some activities on our campus, and engineering students visited the Guadalajara campus, within the framework of a program with several institutions in Jalisco.
In addition, students from Government and Economics, participated in the Notre Dame International Week in 2022, broadening their academic and professional perspective.
Looking to the future: new research opportunities
The visit culminated in a meeting with Dr. Santiago García Álvarezrector of the Panamericana, Mexico City campus, and with a meeting with Francisco OrozcoVice Rector of Panamericana, Guadalajara campus; Abraham LeónInstitutional Research Coordinator; and Claudia OrtegaDirector of Research at the Mexico City campus.
The meeting explored opportunities for future collaboration in areas such as engineering, including possible visits and joint research projects, and highlighted the potential of this collaboration for innovation and knowledge sharing.
