Sustainability experts meet at Pan American forum

Aguascalientes, Ags. August 24, 2023. Forum on Decarbonization as a Risk Mitigation Opportunity for the Nearshoring Phenomenon was held at the was held at the Panamericana campus Aguascalientes. At the event, environmental and construction specialists: architect Adela Rangel Fediux, architect Jorge López, and Rebeca Ortiz shared their professional positions as members of organizations in favor of sustainability and the environment in Mexico and the world.

The objective of these three personalities is to promote good sustainable building practices through the Urban Land Institute (ULI), a long-established and prestigious real estate development organization. This organization is strongly based on the voluntary contribution of its members.

ULI members include Adela Rangel, Jorge López and Luis Arturo Méndez Alba, Dean of the School of Architecture at the Aguascalientes campus, who was also the host of the event.

Rebeca Ortiz, Head of Business Development at Green Building Certification Institute Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), was commissioned to deliver the LEED Gold certification of Continental's Continental's plant..

"We did this event at the University because we believe it is very important to have this link with students, to have this initiative. A master in sustainable urban development, Adela Rangel is a founding partner and general director of Akurat, a firm specializing in the design and management of projects committed to sustainability in the construction of cities. She is a member of the Management Committee of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Mexico and is also affiliated to AMAU - Mexican Association of Architects and Urban Planners and member of CAM-SAM Colegio de Arquitectos de Mexico, Society of Architects of Mexico.

"Putting on the ULI hood, the mission of making better places in every way changes to have a transformative impact where the community is not only aware of what you do and how, but can take a more productive, transformative and proactive stance in what they do," Adela reports.

Rebeca Ortiz is the Business Development leader for the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), an organization in charge of professional accreditation and certification of projects under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating. Thanks to her vast work experience in the public and private sectors, the International Business graduate works to expand and strengthen the LEED market in Mexico. Throughout her career, she has been involved in new business development, networking and public relations. She was also in charge of delivering the LEED Gold certification plaque to the Continental Aguascalientes plant.

Jorge López de Obeso, a master in housing and urban planning, is founder and Chairman of the Board of Eosis, a sustainable business consultancy focused on building and part of the ULI Management Committee, as well as a participant in the education committee. His career has been specialized in sustainable building with the category of LEED Fellow. This assignment is the most important that a professional can receive for his contributions throughout his career.

Forum "Sustainable Industrial Ships: Best Practices to achieve Decarbonization".

The objective of the Sustainable Industrial Buildings: Best Practices to Achieve Decarbonization Forum brought together local businessmen, architects and some other important members of the State; during the forum, topics on LEED certification, the requirement within nearshoring and responsible and sustainable buildings to overcome the energy and social crisis were discussed in depth.

"It is a methodology that allows the reduction of emissions, because it is an important part when talking about climate change, for us this joint effort and this type of events are very important to be able to leave these questions and approaches for the future of our cities and communities," adds Rebeca.
