ZAPOPAN, Jalisco; July 30, 2024. The Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara Campus, announces that Karina Corona Gutiérrez, a research professor in the School of Engineering, has earned her Ph. D. in Engineering, with a specialization in Industrial Engineering Optimization.
His thesis focused on solving problems in the field of logistics, specifically vehicle routing, using both a mathematical model and a heuristic algorithm to find effective solutions.
Doctorate in Engineering
Dr. Karina Corona devoted her doctoral research to studying optimization methods for complex logistics problems. Her work focused on developing efficient solutions for vehicle routing, addressing emergency and disaster situations where the rapid delivery of goods is crucial.“My research focused on how to get certain goods to certain locations as quickly as possible, prioritizing deliveries based on their importance,”she explained.

Significance of Your Research
The focus of his thesis has practical applications at both the national and international levels. The models he developed can be used in emergency situations, enabling a rapid and efficient response. In addition, his research also has commercial and academic applications, providing tools to simulate and improve logistics processes across various industries.

Challenges along the way
Dr. Corona’s path to earning her doctorate was not without its challenges. “One of the biggest challenges was balancing my job with my doctoral studies, especially during the pandemic. However, it was a highly educational experience that allowed me to better understand research and teamwork,” she said.
On a personal level, earning a doctorate is a significant achievement.“For me, it means overcoming a personal and professional challenge. I realize that I can contribute more through research and have a positive impact on the university and my students, ”he said.

Message to the university community
Dr. Corona encourages the university community to continue growing academically and personally. “There is always something new to learn and contribute. A doctorate is a very effective tool for generating new knowledge and contributing to society from our own field.”
The Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara Universidad Panamericana congratulates Dr. Karina Corona Gutiérrez on this achievement and hopes that her contributions will continue to inspire the university community to reach new goals and advance knowledge in their respective disciplines.
